Recently had an issue with WSUS crashing and the dedicated HDD filling up. It was so bad that I determined it was irreparable.
I completely removed WSUS and reinstalled. I ran into two errors in the post install. Using Server Manager, it is very cryptic, so I ran the Snap-In for the post install. The first error I received was illegal characters in path. I had used W:/ Apparently you can’t have an ending / in the path. I created a subfolder ‘WSUS’, and changed the post-run to W:/WSUS
That ran further, but then received:
Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.CommandException: Failed to set service MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID to automatic start
Took the easy route and just installed SQL Express and used that DB instead. Cheers!
